Am I a good candidate for the surgery? Your visit with Dr. Rohrich will determine if you are a good candidate. Radiesse ™ restores the lost volume associated with facial lipoatrophy. Facial lipoatrophy is the loss of fat that supports the fullness, shape and contour of the face. Radiesse ™ is used to fill nasolabial folds (smile lines), chin, cheek, jaw line, and around the mouth and can also be used for nasal defects. Before you decide to have surgery, think carefully about your expectations and discuss them with Dr. Rohrich during your consultation. What should I expect from my consultation? During the consultation, you will be asked how you feel about your appearance and anything else that you feel is important. You will learn about the treatment, its limitations and risks, and discuss your needs and concerns. Dr. Rohrich will explain which surgical techniques and/or fillers are most appropriate for you. After your consultation a photographer will take photographs for your medical record. Dr. Rohrich will review your medical history and check for conditions that may cause problems during or after the procedure. You should provide any information about any medical conditions, drug allergies, medical treatments you have received, previous surgeries and medications that you currently take. It is important for you to provide complete information.
What is Radiesse ™ and how are the injections performed? Radiesse ™ is made of very tiny, smooth calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres. The microspheres (particles) form a scaffold through which your body’s own collagen grows, and this produces the desired long-term effect. CaHA is a biomaterial with over twenty years of use in orthopedics, neurosurgery, dentistry, and ophthalmology, and is the primary mineral constituent of bone and teeth. The semi-solid nature of Radiesse is created by suspending CaHA in a common water based carrier, also used in a large array of products. Radiesse is synthetic CaHA that has similar characteristics to bone and teeth, and is naturally compatible with the body. It has been tested extensively in clinical trials for over seven years now with exceptional safety and efficacy results. The injections are performed in a clinical setting and usually takes 30 minutes to an hour. How safe is Radiesse™? Radiesse™ is proven safe and effective through rigorous clinical trials and independent physician studies that consistently demonstrate longer lasting results with immediate enhancement. Radiesse has more clinical data than any other filler product. What should I know about my results? In facial applications, Radiesse should provide a correction that lasts around one to two years (with an occasional touchup). Individual results may vary, affected by age, metabolism, skin type, lifestyle and muscle activity. Approximately 24 hours following injection of Radiesse, most swelling or redness will have subsided. Some patients return to work immediately following injection, while others may need 24 hours. |
