UT Southwestern University Hospital is the private, adult referral hospital located on the campus of Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas. The hospital brings breakthrough research to the bedside of the patient by some of medicine's most skilled professionals.
Opened in November 1989, the University Hospital at Southwestern Medical Center is a not-for-profit, 151-bed teaching and referral hospital. The creation of the University Hospital began in 1981 when UT Southwestern's need for its own hospital inspired the vision and financial backing of the Dallas philanthropic community.
Through the leadership efforts of local businessmen Donald Zale and Bruce Lipshy, funds were provided as the catalyst for this ambitious project. To recognize the contributions of these two families, the hospital is named in honor of Edna and M.B. Zale and Udys and Ben Lipshy. Spearheaded by civic leader, the late Ralph Rogers, additional funds have come through the generous donations of numerous community leaders, foundations and corporations, as well as through revenue bonds issued in 1987 and 1989.
As an academic teaching and referral hospital for a distinguished medical school, the hospital's mission is to teach the next generation of medical professionals. But to patients at the University Hospital, the hospital's primary role is to provide a place where an art as old as humanity is practiced -- the art of healing.

The Dallas Plastic Surgery Institute is a unique and comprehensive plastic surgical care practice comprised of six internationally known plastic surgeons. Since 1977 these distinguished surgeons have been together, collectively creating the most innovative center of its kind. Located in the prestigious Landry Tower on the northeastern side of Baylor University Medical Center campus, the Dallas Plastic Surgery Institute encompasses two full floors. Here, the physicians and staff have put together all the elements of comprehensive surgical and cosmetic skin care into one center. Patients can pick and choose the services they want, from surgical procedures, to dermabrasions, to penetrating facials — and get the services all in one facility.
In addition, the Institute offers two cosmetic skin care centers, Dallas Medical Skin Care and Renaissance Skin Care clinics. The Epicentre offers a complete array of perimedical services which include the most comprehensive array of lasers in the Metroplex. The laser treatment facility addresses hair removal, treatment of leg veins, and unwanted blemishes. There is also a full complement of services available in physician-administered chemical peels and microdermabrasions.
The Dallas Day Surgery Center is comprised of the surgical suites and The Cloisters at Landry, an exclusive privately owned hotel facility for overnight postsurgical convalescent care. Dallas Day Surgery Center is a fully accredited outpatient surgery center with three operating rooms, a full recovery room and a highly trained and certified staff. Adjacent to Dallas Day Surgery Center is The Cloisters at Landry, a six-room in-patient hotel facility which offers complete patient comfort and privacy along with five star service. The Cloisters is a discreet and elegant environment with patient care 24 hours a day. Overnight care is provided by registered nurses who have been associated with the Institute for years. An unforgettable experience in terms of concierge and patient care services, patients who enter find they never have to be transferred anywhere else until they are ready to leave.
Dallas Day Surgery Center is privately owned and operated under the philosophy of providing professional, personalized, comprehensive, cost-effective operative care to all patients undergoing surgery, while maintaining and promoting their health and well-being.

The Department of Plastic Surgery at UT Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas offers all types of cosmetic and reconstructive Plastic Surgery procedures, including minimally invasive/new technology techniques. Our mission is to provide superior patient care as well as maintaining one of the top Plastic Surgery programs in the country.
The Department of Plastic Surgery at UT Southwestern began in 1969 as a Division of the Department of Surgery with the appointment of one faculty member, who served as chair, one resident, and a secretary. There are currently 5 full-time faculty members, more than 40 clinical faculty attendings, 8 full-time residents, 9 integrated residents, 4 full-time fellows, and 32 administrative and support personnel.
In 1993, the division was awarded the prestigious Crystal Charity Ball Distinguished Chair in Plastic Surgery - the only such chair in plastic surgery in the United States. The Chairman of the department, Dr. Rod J. Rohrich, worked hard to take the division to another level of excellence in research that matched what had been achieved clinically and educationally under Dr. Fritz Barton.
UT Southwestern Plastic Surgery attained departmental status in September, 1996. This major milestone makes it one of only three such departments in the country. Under Dr. Rod J. Rohrich's direction a close and beneficial relationship between basic science and other clinical departments has been established and an active plastic surgery research program initiated. In three state of the art basic science laboratories, the Department has active, well-funded basic and clinical research projects in advanced wound healing and innovative plastic surgery technology. Research is coordinated by a full-time Ph.D. assisted by laboratory technicians and multi-interest research fellows.
The Department of Plastic Surgery has attained excellence in all spheres - patient care, resident education, and basic research -- and its growth is continuing rapidly. The Department's plans for the next decade are bold and its aspirations are high, but we will achieve these goals because of the enthusiastic commitment of the faculty, staff, and the caliber of residents who collectively believe that the future of the Department of Plastic Surgery at UT Southwestern can be limited only by imagination and determination.
